Wrong Warp

 2D Puzzle Platformer | PC | Team of 5 | 2 Months
Project Lead, Designer, Programmer

Wrong Warp is a 2D puzzle platformer where the player assumes control of a robot and uses the robot’s arsenal of grenades to traverse and complete levels. The only catch is that none of the grenades do grenade-like things. Using unique grenades such as the “Leash Grenade”, “Geyser Grenade”, “Rift Grenade” and the signature “Teleport Grenade” the player has many options to consider when trying to overcome obstacles.

Conception

What began as a game idea conceptualized during my application to Sheridan, Wrong Warp later developed into an actual prototype about a year into my time at Sheridan, with a small mouse-controlled Teleport Grenade Prototype made for an assignment. A few weeks later, I implemented a second grenade type, the Geyser Grenade to ready the game idea for a pitch. Wrong Warp was later pitched to my peers and received overwhelming interest and support and so the small prototype was about to be expanded upon into a more realized vertical slice.

Development

After being pitched, Wrong Warp became a five-person project, I had to introduce my team members to my implementation pipeline, teach version control to those who were unfamiliar with it, manage each group member’s tasks and workload, and I had to patch up any issues that arose during production. I also had to design and implement the third grenade type which became the Rift Grenade which required many changes to the systems already present in the game such as the implementation of a tilemap level design system which not only became my first learning experience with tilemaps but also streamlined the level design process in the future. By the end of that semester, the group had learned a lot, I had learned a lot and I had a system that encouraged me to go a bit further with the implementation of the Leash Grenade to offer more agency over certain game objects.
