Holiday is a rogue-like top-down twin stick shooter where the player traverses across the landmass they inhabit on a not-so-relaxing holiday with their special powers, trinkets, weaponry, and items. Featuring uncapped co-op support tested with 7 players and controller support for Xbox, Playstation and Gamecube controllers, players can include as many players as they have controllers. A 2D game now made 3D, Holiday utilizes elevation in its gameplay which allows players to jump over projectiles, shoot over walls and jump on objects.
Conception
Inspired by Enter the Gungeon and Nuclear Throne, Holiday is a game that was originally known as Jelly Hunter Extreme which got Greenlit on Steam before Greenlight was retired. The game has since been refactored and is now known as Holiday.
Development
Having been an on-and-off project, Holiday has seen a large amount of changes. I’ve worked on design across the game including enemy design, item design, gameplay design, and the work-in-progress narrative design. While iterating on Holiday I’ve had to conduct numerous playtests in order to understand how to adapt the design of the gameplay to player needs. My design discoveries from testing have led to much iteration on game systems such as player powers, currency, enemy behaviours and environmental components.
